Google Announces New AI Ad Formats
Google recently announced the introduction of a new generation of Gemini-powered ad formats across AI Mode and Search, designed to create a more conversational and intuitive user experience. A key highlight of this launch is the rollout of conversational discovery ads, which are engineered to answer a searcher’s specific questions directly within AI Mode. By highlighting relevant answers, these ads can appear seamlessly within AI-generated recommendation lists, providing users with highly contextual information.
Beyond discovery, Google is piloting two additional ad types to deepen brand engagement. This includes a “Business agent for leads,” which replaces static forms with an interactive, AI-powered chat experience. These brand agents are trained on a company’s own website to provide tailored assistance and capture leads more effectively. Furthermore, a “Direct Offers Pilot” is being introduced to enhance the shopping experience through promotion bundling, native checkout for UCP merchants, travel deal integrations, and personalized, AI-generated offer recommendations. The jump towards monetizing AI within the Google ecosystem is officially here. As an agency what we can start doing is slowly testing AI mode ads as they start to push these formats live. We should not go head first in without any testing due the general timeline it takes for google products to become efficient, as we saw with performance max a handful of years ago.
